During BTFC Office Hours, we’ll answer general questions and provide an environment where you can get advice and feedback on ONE project from industry professionals.
What are Office Hours?
It’s an open door for any member who would like to just come in and ask a question. Get a second pair of eyes on a rough cut, get some help on budgets, have your script reviewed…Remember back in the day when our professors had office hours and you would just go in to ask a question or get some help? That is what these office hours are like.
NOTE: 30-minute slots will be assigned on a first RSVP basis. A Zoom link will be sent to you 48 hours before your session. Please block out 11:00 – 1:00 PM PT on your calendar until your slot is received.
Meet Ben Watkins
Writer/Producer
Ben Watkins previously created and served as executive producer for HAND OF GOD (Amazon), and was executive producer for BURN NOTICE (USA), TRUTH BE TOLD (Apple), and WU-TANG: AN AMERICAN SAGA (Hulu). An industry vet, hailing from Berkeley, the prolific showrunner started his career as an actor playing Dr. Wesley Carter on THE YOUNG AND THE RESTLESS. His first foray into writing was the short film QUEST TO REF, which he wrote, co-directed and starred in. The film was an official Sundance Film Festival Selection and won Best Short Film at the American Black Film Festival. Watkins actively supports community programs and people working in and around civil rights, public education, and homelessness. He is a founding member of Sweat Equity Alliance (SEA Change), a community activist organization in the South Bay. He is also active within the WGA, serving on several committees and is a core member of the Showrunner’s Training Program.
Founded by Watkins and his wife Kandi, Blue Monday Productions was established with a dedication to exceptional storytelling and commitment to community service. In addition to CROSS, Blue Monday has a significant slate of projects in development with notable partners such as Jon Bernthal and Morgan Freeman and Lori McCreary‘s Revelations Entertainment. Blue Monday’s Breakthrough Artist Program – a three-month paid apprenticeship for writing, producing and/or directing – focuses on increasing access and accelerating the learning curve for artists who have demonstrated exceptional talent, a commitment to community, and giving back.
Join us to talk about your project and ideas, so that you’re better equipped to move forward and #MAKEYOURWORK. It’s all-time well spent.
